On behalf of the Merrymount families who came together to send care packages to members of our military serving oversees, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to those who made generous donations to our effort. Those donations made it possible for us to send a total of fifty packages to our military in Afghanistan, Kuwait and 17 countries in Africa. Dozens of children wrote letters and made colorful artwork to send in the packages: these were messages of thankfulness, hope and cheer. A special thanks to the Broad Meadows Worker Bees for their tremendous help and leadership with our children.
Wonderfully caring and giving members of our Quincy community brought treats to send and donations to cover the cost. It was a truly amazing experience from start to finish and we are grateful to all who joined us in sending a thank you gift to the troops this Christmas season.
Our packages went to Marine security detachments in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire; Abuja, Nigeria; Accra, Ghana; Algiers, Algeria; Bamako, Mali; Cairo, Egypt; Conakry, Guinea; Dakar, Senegal; Lagos, Nigeria; Lome, Togo; Monrovia, Liberia; Ndjamena, Chad; Niamey, Niger; Nouakchott, Mauritania; Rabat, Morocco; Tunis, Tunisia; and Valletta, Malta. Packages also went to Quincy friends serving with the Coast Guard in Kuwait and the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.
Many people were instrumental in making this effort a success including: Arthur and Shirley Tobin, Rep. Stephen Tobin, Senator Michael Morrissey, Councilor Jay Davis, and Councilor-elect Margaret LaForest. Ann Pegg, Principal of Merrymount School, and the amazing group of professionals that work with her and engage our children each day, gave us their support and encouragement as well as donations.
Below are a few emails & pictures we have already received from soldiers that got our Operation Merrymount Care Packages. Please continue to support our troops.

Merrymount PTO,
I would like to convey to you my sincerest gratitude for the care package we recently received. The thought, care and time that went into preparation and planning, and delivery of these boxes is exceptional. Sometimes we forget the little things that bring joy and smiles to us. Having the letters (and the American snacks) definitely do the trick. On behalf of the Marine Security Guard Detachment Tunis, Tunisia, please accept and extend to all those who supported your efforts, our greatest thanks and appreciation for the care, warm wishes and the goodies. Thank you so much! Enclosed is a current photo of Detachment Tunis.
Sincerely,

I am writing this as a personal note to thank you for the packages that you sent to our detachment. It means so much to the Marines that receive these packages, and reminds us that there are so many that do care. For too many of us deployed overseas, we do not receive anything from our families back home and the only Christmas cards we get are the ones enclosed in the care packages. So much care goes into every one of the packages that you send out, and it shows. Again I thank you and wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
I hope that you will convey just how much what they have done means to us and to myself personally.
